Reset Hikvision camera – This is how you restore the factory settings | Central alarm

Reset Hikvision cameraFactory reset is sometimes necessary, for example if you have forgotten the password or if the camera behaves strangely. In this article we explain how to perform a hardware reset and what the consequences are.

When to perform a reset

There are several situations where aHikvisioncameraRestoring to factory settings is the best solution: you have forgotten the activation password, the camera no longer responds to commands, or you want to reconfigure the camera for a different location. A reset will erase all settings, including the password, network configuration and recording settings.

Method 1: Reset via the physical button

MustHikvisioncameras have a small reset button, often hidden under a rubber cover or in a small hole on the bottom of the camera. Make sure the camera is turned on. Then press and hold the reset button for 10 to 15 seconds (use a paperclip or toothpick). The camera indicator will flash, indicating that the reset was successful. After restarting, the camera is back to factory settings.

Method 2: Reset via the SADP tool

If you have access to the network but don't know the password, you can use the SADP tool (free download from theHikvision-website). Select the camera from the list and click 'Forgot your password'. You must then generate a security code via your Hik-Connect account (linked to the camera's serial number).Hikvisionthen sends a reset code that allows you to set a new password without a full reset.

Method 3: Reset via the web interface

If you have access to the camera's web interface (via the IP address in a browser), you can reset the camera via Configuration → System → Maintenance → Default Setting. You can choose a partial reset (only keep network settings) or a complete factory settings reset.

After the reset: activate the camera again

After a complete reset, you must activate the camera again. Open the SADP tool or the Hik-Connect app and go through the activation process again. Set a strong new password and then configure the network settings, time zone and recording settings. We also recommend immediately installing a new firmware update if one is available.

Important points to consider when resetting

After a reset, all recordings on the internal SD card are generally not deleted, only the camera configuration. Images on an NVR are also preserved. However, all user accounts, detection zones, schedules and network settings will be deleted. Therefore, make a note of your network settings and detection configuration in advance so that you can quickly re-enter them.
